Foburg interactives #1 - let's hear some remixes

As mentioned recently, the Foburg album is but one event in a series of Flannery manifestations. Some of these will involve the direct and random participation of the interested portion of the population of the entire world.

The first of these will allow you, the esteemed visitor, to download the multitrack of the Foburg song Asunderland, and to remix it in any way whatsoever that you consider desirable, funny or suitably contemptuous.

Due to limitations in server space and CC's will to live, the multitrack does not contain such amenities as multiple snare mic tracks and reverb-free vocals. Hopefully your ingenuity will be stimulated rather than impeded by these strictures.

Many of you will already be familiar with the world of digital music making. For those who are not, here are some links to some FREE tools which may assist you in your labours.

For Linux users, there's the enormous Ubuntu Studio Project
For users of PC, heaven has provided Luna Free
For Mac users, there's ProTools Free (may exist for PC also) and Ardour.

Lifke much of the open source material available digitally, this service will be subject to a specific Creative Commons licence, this one meaning that any distribution of your remix should include attribution of the source material, and should not made commercially available without express permission from the copyright owner (CC). The same terms will apply to any work by a further person which is based on your remix. The full terms are on the download page.

Further assistance? Well, as long as your remix doesn't contain anything legally actionable under the laws of Antarctica, cathalcoughlan.com will be pleased to host it or link to it, so that others can comment upon and be inspired by it.

Simply place your mix, in MP3, WMA, Real, Quicktime, Ogg or any 'web-compressed' format (sorry, aiffs or wavs will make life very difficult for all of us) in a location from which it can be downloaded or played over the web, and send us a mail so that we can either link to it or copy it to this site (the choice is yours - please let us know your preference when making contact). If you would rather email your file, you can send it to foburg.files@googlemail.co.uk, but please also send a reminder using the form on this site after mailing.

If the Asunderland response proves large and/or amusing, other tunes will be released in a similar manner. And another variety of interactive will appear on the site next month.

Still breathing? Go here to download the tracks and get started.
